A clan from the Muscogee tribe settled in present day Tulsa around the late 1820s to 1830s. They named the area “Tulasi.” The word means “Old Town.” Over time, people moved to the area and a small town took hold, and Tulsa the city was then incorporated in 1898. Everything changed for Tulsa when at the beginning of the 20th Century, oil was found near the city. Soon, the area exploded with growth as people came to the area looking for jobs and opportunity.
