High-rise Living in Asbury Park, NJ

Living in Asbury Park

It's just about an hour's drive from Midtown Manhattan, but Asbury Park, NJ, is worlds away in terms of lifestyle and culture. Like many of the communities along the Jersey Shore, Asbury park is a place where people go to relax, unwind and have fun.

This beachside community connects to the city via the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, off of Exit 102. After that, it's as simple as following Asbury Avenue — the road leads right to the beach. Trains on the New Jersey Coast Line run regularly from Penn Station, right to Main Street in Asbury Park.

The town itself is relatively small, running from the coast to Ridge Avenue in the west. The northern and southern borders are Deal Lake and Wesley Lake, respectively. There's a lot packed into those modest borders, especially for lovers of art, architecture, nature and — of course — the beach.

The boardwalk is probably the town's largest claim to fame, with a large variety of restored and preserved architectural gems. A long line of shops, restaurants and lounges faces the beach, featuring everything from upscale cocktails to homemade ice cream. The Paramount Theater, a 1920s movie palace turned general event venue, serves as a centerpiece. For those who want to get out of the sun, there are some unique tourist attractions around the train station, as well as a long stretch of park that extends inland from the shoreside theater.

People love living in Asbury Park for the uniquely restored boardwalk, the great access to local golf courses and the long stretches of beach. The constant stream of visitors during high tourist season also keeps things interesting, supporting many of the local restaurants, entertainment venues and arts projects. This Jersey Shore town is only 20 blocks or so from one side to another, but there's still quite a lot of variety. Make sure you are looking in the right place.
