Condo Living in Tampa
Part of the metro area that includes nearby St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Tampa, FL, is an urban bayside community. It extends up to the north past the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve and then down to the south towards the MacDill Air Force Base. There are a number of areas within that range, each with its own unique character. These include New Tampa, an area far to the north that includes Pebble Creek and Tampa Palms, a dense downtown, consisting of several distinct neighborhoods situated between the Hillsborough and McKay Bays, and South Tampa, a peninsula extending down into Tampa Bay with a variety of bayside and inland housing options.
Major highways run into the city coming from Orlando in the northeast and from the Fort Myers and Cape Coral metro area in the south. There are also cross-state options, such as Highway 64, for those coming up from Southeastern Florida. A number of regional and international airports that service the metro area, the largest of which are the St. Pete Clearwater airport on the west side of Old Tampa Bay and the Tampa International Airport right northwest of the downtown area.
Tampa is the major economic center for the region, along with its neighbors in the same metro area. Of course, it also offers many of the types of amenities found in smaller Florida communities, such as golf courses, aquatic recreation and opportunities for natural exploration. The boating community is especially strong in the communities along the bay, such as Beach Park, Stoney point and Belmar Shore. Those with a more maritime mindset should start the search on the east side of South Tampa or Davis and Harbour islands just south of downtown.
Of course, a private dock isn't necessary to enjoy the water in this city. On the west side of South Tampa, there's a popular and picturesque walkaway all along Bayshore Boulevard, featuring prominently in the lives of residents of communities such as Bayshore Beautiful and Bayshore Gardens. Hyde Park, just south of the University of Tampa and across the river from downtown, is also home to many of the city's most distinguished historical architecture. The most developed area of Tampa is right across the bridges from the university, with many condo high-rises and office skyscrapers between Ashley Drive and Jefferson Street. There is also some significant high-rise development across the Garrison Channel in Harbour Island.
