Located between the rest of Los Angeles and Santa Monica along the Pacific coast, Venice, CA, is the definition of a beach community. And, while not many people would confuse this neighborhood with its European namesake, there are a series of canals near the marina. Of course, the most iconic features of Venice, CA, are not man-made waterways. The thing that defines Venice is the long strip of sandy Pacific coast that stretches along the southwestern border of the neighborhood. Getting into Venice is easy taking Highway 1, which becomes the Pacific Coast Highway right next door in Santa Monica. Residents and visitors could also take Venice Boulevard in from Culver off highway 10 or the Marina Freeway from the 405 coming from basically anywhere in the western LA area. Of course, a more direct route would be simply to fly into the Santa Monica airport. This airfield is located right at the border of Venice — but you'll probably need a pilot's license or a private jet to catch a flight. (read more about living in Venice)

Venice is almost all about the beach. Sailing, casual fine dining and chic boutiques also contribute to the laid-back, upscale vibe. The main shopping, food and entertainment quarter is a series of streets that runs parallel to Abbot Kinney Boulevard. This is home to the area's most iconic shops and restaurants.
One of the reasons that people love living in Venice is the laid-back, live-work-play lifestyle. There are several major employers right in the area and many more throughout Los Angeles, but it doesn't feel like a business district. Venice is also right down the highway from Los Angeles International airport, making it an excellent choice for visitors who want to experience one of California's most iconic beaches. In fact, depending on traffic, it may only take about 20 minutes door to door from the airport to the sand.
