Located on one of Hawaii's larger islands, Oahu, Kapiolani is defined as the area around the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. This is also the location of the Shriners Children's Hospital and various other health and charitable organizations. The freeway runs right through the center, with an important interchange at Punahou Street.
