About halfway between Pensacola and Panama City, Destin, FL, is a popular destination for tourists visiting the Florida panhandle's Emerald Coast region. Depending on the interpretation of the geography, it is either on a peninsula or a barrier island — the East Pass canal separates it from the mainland to the west. Coming from Pensacola, Highway 98 goes right across the canal into one of the main tourist areas. The road then continues east, to Panama City and beyond. Almost all the way through town, Spence Parkway heads north across Mid-Bay Bridge. The bridge spans the Choctawhatchee Bay, providing a connection to the other bay communities and, eventually, to Interstate 10 further inland. The Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport is to the northwest across the bay, and there's also an executive airport right in town.
Condo Living in Destin
As mentioned above, Destin is a popular tourist destination. This is partly because of its history as one of Florida's important fishing villages, but the attraction is also due to a wide array of recreational facilities and resorts that line the picturesque, white-sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. People come to Destin on their way through to other cities in the region, but many also use it as a base to explore the bay and the surrounding nature preserves. As a testament to this, there is a significant year-round population in the many high-rise condo developments in town. Of course, there is no denying that the number of residents tends to expand several-fold during tourist season.
People love living in — or visiting, as the case may be — Destin for family fun, golf, beaches, nature, fair climate and most everything you would expect from Florida's reputation as a vacation paradise.
