One visit is all it takes to know that Boulder, Colorado, is a different type of place to live. The town is located in north-central Colorado, and it's the county seat of Boulder County. It's near Denver — about 25 miles away. Nearby communities to the east include Gunbarrel, Louisville, Superior, Leyner and Lafayette. The iconic Flatirons — a rock formation — are to the west, along with some foothill communities.

As far as getting into town is concerned, the Boulder airport is in the northeast corner of the main municipal area, near the Noble Park neighborhood. Coming in through Denver International also makes sense, given the short distance between the two cities. The Denver-Boulder turnpike runs southeast out of Central Boulder, and various highways lead out along the mountains. I-70 crosses the mountains over to Grand Junction, and eventually Utah, or travelers can get west to Salt Lake City via slightly friendlier terrain by taking a connection to I-80 in Wyoming.
One of the city's main draws is its year-round bounty of natural recreation — an amenity that's closely guarded by various laws and regulations governing urban expansion. This makes housing in Boulder quite competitive, but it also preserves everything that the unique foothill environment offers: the nearly limitless network of stunning hikes and the snow-sports slopes, for example. Of course, Boulder is also a college town, home of the University of Colorado. This makes it a cultural center, as well as a city with a thriving nightlife scene.
People love living in Boulder for the connection to nature, the outdoor sports scene, the excellent schools and the extraordinarily high quality of life.
