East Atlanta Condos
Located southeast of Downtown, East Atlanta was the site of the Battle of Atlanta and today many historic markers dot the neighborhood including two upturned cannons where Confederate General Walker and Union General McPherson were killed. East Atlanta recovered after the war and in a series of votes in the early 1900s, East Atlanta residents chose to be annexed into the city limits of Atlanta in order to gain access to fire protection and public education. Water and sewer service also enabled residents to enjoy indoor plumbing. Recently East Atlanta has become a popular neighborhood for home-buyers because of the bargains that can be found. In addition to refurbishing an older home, prospective buyers also have the option of many new homes and townhomes being built here.
In 1981, the East Atlanta Community Association was founded to create a stronger neighborhood bond. Many improvements have been made thanks to the dedication of its residents. Most significant is the development of the business district known as “East Atlanta Village” (EAV) which, like Little Five Points and Virginia Highland, is an eclectic collection of shops, restaurants and bars that is pedestrian friendly and fast becoming a staple in Atlanta’s entertainment scene.
