Once known as Bedford-Pine, SoNo was coined by Brian Glass, president of Central Atlanta Neighbors to go along with its new image and rapid development: SoNo -- South of North. The idea to rename the area SoNo came from New York’s SoHo district (South of Houston). Like SoHo, this district is a complete live-work-play community with one of Atlanta's most diverse populations. Restaurants, pubs, luxury apartments and affordable condominiums, healthcare facilities and businesses have emerged in this once-destitute area of downtown.
Now a safe neighborhood, it is a place where the fun-loving crowd can walk to bars, clubs and restaurants, and live in a fantastic and affordable condo. The neighborhood is also home to one of Atlanta’s best hospitals Emory Crawford Long Hospital.
