Decatur Condos

Decatur is the county seat of Dekalb County. This adorable town is an intown Atlanta suburb and part of Metropolitan Atlanta. In 1823 Decatur was founded at the intersection of two Native American trails: the Sandtown which led east from the Chattahoochee River at Utoy Creek and the Shallowford which follows today's Clairmont Road and eventually crossed near Roswell, Georgia. The town was named for naval hero Stephen Decatur. In the 1830s Decatur rejected an attempt to make it a stop on the Western and Atlantic Railroad. The stop was made instead a few miles down the road, thus creating Atlanta.

Despite some sour economic times, Decatur has enjoyed recent growth and vigor, thanks in large part to some long-term development projects that are finally being realized. The downtown Decatur area has become a quaint and trendy district where locals and visitors find unique shops and restaurants. The pedestrian city squares in Decatur offer more than 80 unique shops and restaurants selling everything from folk art to handmade bags and jewelry. Home to the Indigo Girls and Michael Stipe of REM, Decatur also has a thriving arts community. Decatur is served by Marta which makes for a quick trip to Atlanta’s neighborhoods and it is also convenient to Emory University.
