About Buckhead 

Buckhead was originally named Irbyville for the Irby family, owners of most of the land in the area and the local tavern/general store. The community was later named after a "buck's head," when someone shot a buck and hung the head on a tree outside the tavern, thus becoming a popular landmark. The Buckhead today is one of the premier neighborhoods in Atlanta. With outstanding dining options and some of the most upscale shopping in the country (Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza), visitors and residents alike revel in the good life. Many of the homes in Buckhead are old stately mansions but there are smaller bungalows and other style single-family residences as well. Recently, however, Buckhead has become a popular location for new luxury high-rise buildings. Today, Buckhead has almost 50 high-rise buildings, many located along Peachtree Rd. 

Buckhead is one of the most expensive real estate markets in Georgia and home to old Southern families as well as young hip socialites and professionals. It has one of the liveliest bar scenes in the city, two of the country’s fourteen Mobil five-star restaurants, and just about every luxury hotel one could imagine, all of which gives it the nickname “Beverly Hills of the South”.
