Pearl District Portland is a historic neighborhood where art aficionados, galleries, and artists come together. It's in one of the oldest parts of the city, with most of the galleries concentrated in the southern portion of the neighborhood, bordered to the north by Northwest Glisan Street. Portland artists and art lovers looking for homes in the city will definitely want easy access to this roughly 28-square-block art heaven.

The variety and range of work is what really makes the area special. However, Upfor is certainly one of the most important Pearl District galleries in terms of the art world at large. This avant-garde space was founded in 2013, and is featured in internationally renowned publications, such as Artforum.

From the Pearl District, it's easy to get to the city's next major art nexus, the Portland Art Museum. It's one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the nation— and it's only about a 10-minute walk from the southern end of the neighborhood. Patrons could also make use of the city's efficient streetcar system to get right to the front door of the museum.

The Pearl's artistic soul runs deeper than the galleries and museums. The performing and literary arts are also well represented in the neighborhood. There's the Roseland Theater, a popular music venue, and Portland Center Stage at The Armory which produces outstanding theater and is housed within a historic and recently revitalized building. For books, the inimitable Powell's City of Books is right off of the 10th and Couch streetcar stop.

With upscale shops, chic restaurants, internationally-relevant galleries, and long-standing art-world institutions, the Pearl is a thriving urban neighborhood. That's why anyone who's interested in the arts would love life here. Moving to the city? Learn more about this historic neighborhood and what's available today here.
