About the Challenge

The Great Cycle Challenge is a cycling fundraiser for the Children’s Cancer Research Center held throughout June. The event started just four years ago in 2015 and has since grown to become one of the biggest cycling events in the US, having raised a total of $16,070,740 to support the research and development of better treatments and a cure for childhood cancer.

People of all ages and abilities across the country participate in the challenge, setting cycling goals to reach by the end of June for the cause of fighting kids’ cancer.

With over 15,700 American children diagnosed with cancer every year and 38 of those children dying every week, the need for a cure is great. Highrises St. Louis Partner, Gregg Sharpe, is an annual participant as he continually works to bring awareness to the cause. Through this passion, he has helped raise nearly $6,000 through this event since 2016.

How Cycling Makes Money for Children’s Cancer Research

You can participate in this challenge yourself in June 2019 or just support someone else who is cycling– like Gregg!

Here’s how it works…

Step One: Register & Set A Target
First, you register (for free) on the Great Cycle Challenge platform and set a number of miles to aim to ride for the month of June. The target you set could be as little as 25 miles or as many or more than 1,000 miles! The point is to challenge yourself and use the challenge to achieve your personal fitness goals.

Step Two: Share Your Fundraising Challenge
Ask your friends and family to support you by making a donation through your challenge page. Those who reach $500 in fundraising get a nifty free jersey out of it!

Step Three: Start Cycling June 1
Hit the road and kick off the cycling event at the start of June. You can choose to ride all month, just part of the month, or for only a week–– you make the challenge work for you, that’s the beauty of it.

Step Four: Record Your Rides & Track Your Progress
Log your miles throughout the month to track progress on the way to your goal.
Here are some suggested options for tracking your cycle rides:

When you start logging your miles, you can track your progress in total miles ridden and how close you are to target on your challenge page.
