Dutch Docklands is a company that builds floating developments all over the world. They have an eye on Miami for the next floating project. This would require 500-1000 acres, allowing room for schools, housing, shopping, and a hotel. In 2005, the company launched Ocean Flower in the Maldives. The Ocean Flower development includes 185 water front villas, a beach, restaurants, and shopping.
Federal and Florida officials would need to agree to lease local water for this project to move forward. With most of Miami-Dade developed, this could provide expansion of tax revenue and increase housing inventory as demand continues to increase for this international city.
