Hayes Valley and Civic Center Area

Overview

Much of San Francisco's classic architecture can be found in the Civic Center District. In addition to the Civic Center, this district is home to San Francisco's famous city hall, symphony hall and opera house. Van Ness Avenue runs through the Civic Center and borders the Hayes Valley district. Once a reminder of urban blight, Hayes Valley has recently become a popular residential neighborhood while still maintaining a sense of community.
