Icon evolved from the historic Carnation factory, a fixture in the East Village art district for decades. The design includes the original Carnation facade, a feature that inspired the modular architecture of the Icon buildings. Icon also adopted many elements from the Carnation factory's industrial heritage, such as exposed concrete and steel.
