Chicago is where it all began for high-rise buildings. The first steel-framed high-rise went up here in 1885 (the Home Insurance Building) and the city hasn't slowed down since. Chicago is currently home to the Sears Tower, currently the tallest high-rise in the United States. And as with other densely populated cities like San Francisco and Boston, going up is the only way to fit in all the new residents that want to call downtown Chicago home. Chicago will make history again in the near future with the Spire, the tallest all-residential building in the world.
Many high-rise residential buildings are located in the downtown area, and in fact the 60602 zip code was named by Forbes as the hottest zip code in the country. The new Trump Tower, Waterview Tower and Heritage at Millennium are all setting new standards for luxury high-rise living. Chicago has many more high-rise condo buildings, mostly in the Loop, along Lake Shore Drive and the Magnificent Mile.
