Castleberry Hill is a downtown neighborhood and historic warehouse district. In 2006 it became a City of Atlanta Landmark District, which is significant as it protects the area from over-development. Castleberry Hill became industrial around the Civil War with building material factories, cotton warehousing and grocers. It was, in fact, named after a grocer, Daniel Castleberry. Early in the 1900s, like much of the area, Castleberry Hill hit an economic downturn and was left almost untouched until the 1980s. At this time, developers began converting the warehouses into loft housing. This naturally attracted homebuyers and this area became an artistic community with plenty of art galleries, popular restaurants and hip stores. There are also a number of bars catering to locals and those in the area for sporting events. Successful Castleberry Hill draws include monthly art tours that invite locals and visitors to scope out the art galleries and get to know the neighborhood.
Local interests near Castleberry Hill include Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Wren's Nest, Hammonds House, Georgia Dome, Georgia Acquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia World Congress Center, and CNN Center. There are lots of reasons to visit and live in Castleberry Hill and its clear why it continues to increase in popularity amongst those looking to live intown. If you are a true loft home lover, than there is no better neighborhood for you.
